When do we become our mothers,
it's apparent from the start,
when we shed our skin
we find within
that women in our heart.
Sooner or later all daughters become their mothers. No matter how much we try to fight it, we all become just like our mothers. There is no set time, place or circumstance when this transformation takes hold of us. This transformation gradually emerges from under our skin, it appears and comes forth from our heart and it's made known by the words that roll off our tongues.
Our husbands witness it, our children hear it. They hear it in the tone of our voice, our choice of verbs, adjectives and nouns, and the same aphorism's our mothers used spill over onto them. There is nothing we can do about this.
I thank my mother for all she taught me. For all the aphorism's I've adopted from her so I can now sputter them to my boys. I've learned to talk the talk and walk the walk. As I grow older, my mother will continue to live inside of me and I will pass her wisdom on to my children and my children's children. I am constantly evolving into my mother, I've accepted it and welcome this new stage of my life.
For those who try and deny this right of passage, remember one thing, the next time you repeat those wise words your mother so often said to you, it's okay to admit that...
....Sooner or later all daughters become their mothers.
